Among other benefits, CBD showcases anxiolytic properties, which can be incredibly helpful for the relief of stress and anxiety, especially if you’re thinking of quitting smoking and want to try vaping as an alternative to cigarettes. Here we’re going to show you, step by step, how to make your own e-liquid with CBD and cannabis flavor, following a method developed by Dr. Mariano García de Palau and the Cali Terpenes team.
How to make e-liquids with CBD and cannabis flavor
Adding hemp or cannabis extracts to e-liquids is straightforward, but it’s essential to get the proportions right for the final result to be correct. In this tutorial, we start with a 50 ml e-liquid base with a 90/10 Propylene Glycol/Vegetable Glycerin ratio, to which we’ll add 1 ml Cali Terpenes (cannabis aroma), which translates into 2% terpenes in the e-liquid base.
It is essential that the cannabis concentrate that you’re going to use contains as little plant material and impurities as possible, because these make the e-liquid less homogeneous and can clog your vaping device.
Ingredients for 51 ml of e-liquid
- 1 ml Cali Terpenes, in this case Critical Jack.
- 45 ml PG (Propylene Glycol). You can find Propylene Glycol in 1 L and 100 ml formats on our website.
- 5 ml VG (Vegetable Glycerin). You can find Vegetable Glycerin in 100 ml format on our website.
- 0.6 g CBD concentrate, in this case CBD Wax (approx 99.8% isolated CBD).
*The proportion used for the e-liquid base is 90% Propylene Glycol / 10% Vegetable Glycerin. We’ve used this ratio as it’s the closest to that of our Cali Terpenes’ e-liquids.
Cali Terpenes recommends a maximum amount of 15-20% Vegetable Glycerin in the e-liquid base to ensure a true taste to the chosen aroma, along with healthier vaping.
You can vary the ratio of the e-liquid base or the amount of terpenes according to your own preference, but we recommend using a maximum of 20% vegetable glycerin and a maximum of 4% Cali Terpenes.
Furthermore, keep in mind that the effect produced by vaporized extracts is stronger than when smoked, so make sure the solution is suited to your needs, and always be cautious about the ratio you use.
Equipment needed
- Gloves
- Flask
- Magnetic Agitator (not strictly necessary, but it significantly reduces the mixing time and makes the mixture more homogenous).
Steps to follow
- Weigh the extract (in this case, CBD Wax) to prepare a solution tailored to your needs that isn’t too potent. In this case, we’ll add 0.6 g of CBD wax. It is crucial to know the extract’s origin and to have it analyzed.
- Add the extract to the e-liquid base contained in the flask.
- Place the sealed flask in the magnetic agitator, gradually increasing the revolutions until a “cone” forms in the center.
- We recommend leaving it stirring on the magnetic agitator for about 6 hours so as to obtain a homogeneous solution. This requires no effort and will ensure a successful e-liquid.
- Let the e-liquid rest for a bit before you start vaping it, as it’ll be slightly warm from the process in the magnetic agitator.

Tips
- Clean and/or sterilize the equipment that you’re going to use to make your own e-liquid.
- Use gloves made of latex, vinyl, nitrile… to protect your hands during the process.
- Don’t add a large amount of extract – if your e-liquid turns out too thick, you’ll ruin your e-liquid vaporizer. If you’re looking for a vaping format with a much higher cannabainoid concentration, just add terpenes to your CBD wax and use extract vaporizers, wax vaporizers, or a “vape pen”.
